Geo-Fencing in Time Tracking

Geo-Fencing uses the GPS signal from a worker's phone to determine their location, helping to ensure that they are at the correct venue when punching in or out. You can configure Geo-Fencing as either a Hard Geo-Fence or a Soft Geo-Fence.

  • Hard Geo-Fence: Workers are restricted from punching in or out unless they are within the set geo-fence boundary. If they are outside this boundary, they cannot punch in or out.

  • Soft Geo-Fence: Workers can punch in or out even if they are outside the geo-fence boundary, but these punches will appear as pending and require approval from an admin with Time Tracking capabilities.

Note: For a Hard Geo-Fence, please contact your Client Support Specialist or open a support ticket.

Enabling Geo-Fencing

To enable Geo-Fencing:

  1. Navigate to Configuration.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Go to Time Tracking.

  4. Under Get Location, toggle Geo-Fencing on.

You can then set the distance limit for the geo-fence. For example, if set to 500 feet, workers will only be able to punch in or out if they are within 500 feet of the event's listed address.

Notes on Accuracy:

  • Some older or entry-level phones may have trouble with location accuracy. We recommend setting a geo-fence of at least 1000 feet to accommodate these devices.

Selective Geo-Fencing:

  • For venues where the listed address is far from the actual event location, you may wish to disable geo-fencing for those specific events.

To disable geo-fencing for an individual event:

  1. Go to the Main Event Page for the event.

  2. Click on Options.

  3. Deselect Geofencing Enabled.

This allows you to tailor geo-fencing settings to suit different venue requirements.
