Alternates are backup workers that you can treat like on-call staff.

This allows you to add workers that fill in anyone who bails out of a shift. This is a completely automated process, you only need to set the number of alternates you want to have.

Adding Alternates

You can add an alternate to a shift in the same way that you a worker directly to a shift through Direct Assignment.

Increase Alternates to how many you would like.

Add the workers you want as an alternate directly, by clicking Click to Fill.

On the next page, select the 2 workers by clicking their names and Add Selected.

The alternates will then appear as below.

4 Ways an Alternate is moved to a shift:

1. Worker bails out

When a worker bails out, Roosted will automatically replace them with an alternate with that skillset. So, in the picture below, if Adam bails out Booker would replace him.

2. Admin removes a worker with a penalty:

When you remove a worker by bailout, Roosted will automatically replace them with an alternate. In the below case, if an admin has removed Adam with a Bailout, Booker will take his place.

3. Converting an Alternate to an open spot.

You can convert an Alternate to an open spot. In the example below, we have 1 open spot and 2 alternates.

If you want to convert Annabelle to the open spot, you can click the box with the worker name & click convert.

This will then convert Annabelle from an alternate to fill out the open spot & will appear like below.

4. Manually moving the alternate to a worker

Use a basic remove on the original worker and the alternate, and assign the worker that used to be the alternate to the skillset.

So in the picture below you could remove Brice as a worker, remove Adam as an alternate and then add Adam as a worker to the shift to Click To Fill.

And that is how you use Alternates through Roosted! 😎
